Jewelish is an HTML 5 puzzle game which shares thematic and gameplay similarities to the mobile game, Bejeweled. Players are given two minutes to connect as many same colored gems as they can. Gems can be connected either horizontally or vertically by clicking and dragging one piece at a time. However players can only swap a gem if it forms a row of three with another set of same-colored jewels. Connections must consist of at least three tiles — and bonuses are awarded for each additional match. Four gems garner a “gem flame,” a T or L connection form a star gem, and a set of 5 gems allows for a hyper cube. Each bonus allows players to score more points. The game is simple and easy to manipulate, making it best suited for children ages 4 and older.
THIS GAME IS GOOD FOR KIDS WHO NEED HELP WITH:
Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.
It's important that players eliminate all outside distractions as they commit their attention to the entirety of a Jewelish game. Each game last only two minutes, during which players will experience dry spells with very little scoring, as well as fast paced scoring. Sustaining the energy and effort necessary for a good score can be difficult. Players should constantly be trying to beat their previous high scores -- an endeavor characterized by a strong sense of goal directed persistence. Trying for a higher score requires players to match more than three gems -- a part of gameplay that requires foresight and attention to detail.
Being efficient and aware of our use of time and effort.
The tw0-minute time limit forces players to swap gems with increasing speed and efficiency each time they play the game. Players have only one level of play, so it's important that utilize every second to increase their score. During the first minute of play, it might be useful to try and swap gems in a way that allows them to collect bonuses. Players should use their time wisely, knowing when they are wasting precious seconds trying for the harder connections of gems. If too much time has passed without a bonus, then it might be time for players to concentrate on making connections of three gems -- and even using the hint too.
