Nintendo Switch

Cooking Mama Cookstar is a game for the Nintendo Switch where you play as yourself learning to become a master chef! Work your way through various recipes by performing actions such as chopping, sauteing, boiling, grilling, etc. Your success is determined by how quickly and efficiently you can complete the various tasks for each recipe.

Cooking Mama Cookstar has new features such as Vegetarian mode, where all recipes are adapted for players who would rather avoid cutting up virtual shrimp, steak, and chicken. There is also a player vs player mode where you can compete with another player to see who can make the tastiest dish.

The controls can be used independent of the Switch and the controller dock, allowing for players to use the controller like a kitchen implement by “chopping,” “slicing,” “stirring,” in real time. Players can also choose to use the controller dock or connect to the Switch itself to play.

A new settings feature allows you to give new items such as aprons and kerchiefs to Mama as well as adjust the skin tone of your own character, providing inclusivity.

Cooking Mama Cookstar!   helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Time Management: Being efficient and aware of our use of time and effort.

Every recipe step in Cooking Mama is timed. Depending on the level of complexity, the timer can be a very stress-inducing factor in completing a task well. Players who struggle with working under pressure may find this game is a good way to practice this skill. If the pressure is too great, players can always start with practice mode to become more comfortable with the skill before adding a timing element to the game. The more they practice, the easier it will be for the player to gauge how long it will take them to complete each task. This can lead to less stress during the timed activities within the game.

Flexibility: Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations.

Each recipe in the game comes with several steps, none of which are the same. The player needs to use their flexibility and adapt to different requests to ensure that they get a good star rating on their creation. This means changing your motions, your pacing, and your level of intensity to match what the task is asking for. Players who struggle with flexibility can work through a few tasks in practice mode to get a feel for what they will need to accomplish before making the recipe for a star rating.
