K12 Timed Reading is a utility app combined with an e-reader that allows parents and students to practice reading while tracking their reading times and speed. The app comes stocked with a wide variety of reading texts ranging from kindergarten to fourth grade reading level. The amount of time spent on each “page” is averaged with the number of words on each page to give users an idea of the words-per-minute speed of their reading. K12 Timed Reading is available in both free and paid versions, the latter of which offers parents additional options, slots for children and students, and an additional 250 texts. This app contains reading material appropriate for young and beginning readers and is recommended for any user ages 4 and up.
Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.
K12 Timed Reading is designed to help young and beginning readers stay focused and committed to practicing reading. The app offers a variety of texts designed for readers of the kindergarten through fourth grade reading level. As users work to improve their reading time, they will need to exercise an appropriate amount of focus and concentration. Learning to read with speed while also absorbing information from the text takes a great deal of practice and focus. Because the app times a reader continuously, users must commit their effort and remain on task for the duration of each short story in order to see an accurate portrayal of their reading speed. Being able to begin and follow through on each new e-book is a great way for users to practice the Focus thinking skill.
Being efficient and aware of our use of time and effort.
K12 Timed Reading encourages users to practice and exercise the Time Management thinking skill in a variety of ways. Learning to read and honing the necessary skills required for reading proficiency requires users to practice frequently and for a reasonable duration of time. Setting aside time each evening to read and practice these skills is one form of Time Management. In addition, the K12 Timed Reading app tracks a user's reading speed and performance. Because of this, users are encouraged to manage their time and concentration effectively in order to continuously improve their scores. Wasting time through day dreaming or missing key details and being forced to re-read sentences and paragraphs will be negatively reflected in a users reading speed. Being able to stay on task and manage the time spent reading each page is another way in which users will exercise the Time Management thinking skill while using K12 Timed Reading.
K12 Timed Reading comes stocked with a wide variety of e-books designed for readers at numerous levels of proficiency. Whether a beginner or more moderately skilled reader, the app gives users short and appropriate texts to practice and improve their reading speed with. The paid version of the app offers an additional stock of e-books and slots for children or students so that parents and teachers may keep track of the reading speeds and habits of multiple children. Learning to read at speed while still adequately absorbing and synthesizing information is a key skill on the road to reading proficiency.
