Poesie is an app where the user can access a new poem each day. The poems range in age, complexity, and topic so each day is a new way to experience poems on a wide range of topics. The app also allows users to record themselves reading the poem and place it on their site, giving other users the opportunity to hear the poem read by a variety of different people. Users can share poems via email or text, save poems to their Favorites list, learn more about the author and the poem’s meaning, and even leave comments about their favorite imagery from the poem. If the user particularly enjoyed the day’s poem, there is a list below offering similar poems from different poets to try. Poesie will also send you a curated weekly list of poems for you to try. The community board also displays poems that are currently trending, letting users know what everyone else on the app is currently enjoying.
Poesie has a preview version but requires a subscription to use all of its features. Younger readers may need adult assistance with certain reading portions of this app.
Flexibility: Trying something new.
Because Poesie offers poems that range in length, subject matter, and time period, it is possible to read a new type of poem every day that you use the app. For users who struggle with flexibility, Poesie is a great way to try something new in a small capacity. Users can try a variety of poems, keeping track of their favorites, making a list of new things that they have tried and liked. The user may find that they do not enjoy every poem that they encounter but practicing flexibility end trying new things is the end goal.
Focus: Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.
Reading any text takes Focus but poetry can be especially difficult for some due to its style and imagery. This app allows the user to practice Focus in a short, sustained manner by reading one new poem a day. The poems are not as lengthy as a short story or novel, meaning that the user can pay attention to what they are reading in short bursts. And if they want to check their understanding, there is a section at the end of each poem that briefly explains its meaning. The user can also engage with the Poesie community and leave feedback on their favorite pieces of imagery in the poems, demonstrating their Focus in a public setting.
