PicTalk Toddler is an app designed to help children with speech delays or communication issues express their thoughts, feelings and needs to others. This AAC app has users build statements using the touch screen, as they click images to sequence together words and form ideas. Children start by choosing basic questions or opening statements, like “I feel,” “I want to go” or “I want to eat,” and can refine the dialogue by adding in specific details. The menus are divided by category, each labeled with clear pictures and labels to help children visually navigate the app with ease. When word selections are finished, the app will speak the phrase aloud, affording speech-challenged children the opportunity to express their needs and questions to to those around them. The communication assistance provided by this app makes it a good choice for children with ASD, while its simple interface and ease-of-use makes it recommended to ages 2 to 9.
