Moment is an app that, once set up on your phone, will silently track your phone use for you. Because cell phone addiction is a problem for many young people and adults, this app allows you to observe your screen habits and make active changes to your digital diet.
Once Moment is set up, you simply let the app run in the background throughout the day. The app will track how many active minutes you are on your phone, even tracking how many times you pick your phone up. If you want to be more proactive about limiting your phone use, the app also includes a “Moment Guide” which walks the user through revamping their thought process around cellphone use.
Users can also start a Family Group, which allows you to see everyone’s results. By doing this, you cant encourage each other to spend more time away from cellphones.
Self-Awareness: Understanding our own actions, thoughts and feelings.
Being shown how often you perform an action can be eye opening. The moment app charts your phone usage and your “In the Moment” time (30+ min away from phone), allowing the user to see just how much time they spend on their screens. This data can lead to behavioral shifts that might not occur if the user is not aware of the amount of time they are spending mindlessly scrolling on their phone.
Self-Control: Managing our actions, feelings and behaviors.
For this app, Self-Control comes into play when you are aware of how much time you are spending on your phone and actively try to put it down for extended periods of time. The app will even track mindless picking up and unlocking of the phone, so users need to practice their self-control skills to limit their digital diet.
