Stop, Breathe, & Think Kids is a meditation app for children. When the app opens up, the child evaluates themselves using emoji. Each emoji has a sub-set of emotions to help focus in on the appropriate, specific feeling of the user. After selecting up to three emotions (such as calm, cozy, or wild), the player “launches”. The app then provides several different meditations that are appropriate according to the user’s self-evaluation.

Stop, Breathe, & Think Kids has a variety of free meditations and offers subscriptions to unlock their full library. You can also have more than one profile. The ESRB rated it E for Everyone and LW4K stands by this rating.

Stop, Breathe, & Think Kids helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Self-AwarenessStop, Breathe, & Think Kids

Understanding our own actions, thoughts and feelings.

This app helps the user practice and improve their self-awareness skills in a very concrete way. The app begins by asking the user to identify and label their emotions. After going through a meditation, the user is asked to re-evaluate themselves. In both cases, this leads to a better understanding of how the user is feeling. The meditations themselves can also lead to the user evaluating their thoughts and how those thoughts impact the emotions. The more the user practices with the guidance of the app, the better able they will be at using the same skills without the app.

Self-Control

Managing our actions, feelings and behaviors.

By evaluating emotions before and after a guided meditation, the user is getting to see the connection between the coping skill taught by the meditation and the resulting control over that same emotion. In short, they get to see self-control in action. The more they practice these emotions, and they better they follow them, the more control they have over their emotions and feelings, which in turn can lead to control over actions and behaviors. Once they practice a meditation enough times, they can even use that coping skill when they are away from the app, exercising the self-control they have practiced in a real world situation.
