Jour is a guided journaling app. It provides multiple different approaches to journaling. First is a basic daily journal. The app asks simple questions like how do you feel and what do you want to remember about yesterday. The user then journals their answers to these questions. If the user would like, the app can remind them to journal at the same time every day. There is also themed guided journeys available based around things like self-confidence or anxiety.
Jour has a premium version available for purchase. The ESRB rated it T for Teen. While the basic journaling has no adult content, the guided journeys explore mature concepts. LW4K stands by this rating.
Jour helps kids practice and improve the following skills:
Managing our actions, feelings and behaviors.
Self-awareness requires a person to be able to think about, evaluate, and name or talk about our emotions. Jour does the same thing, thereby giving the user the perfect chance to practice their self-awareness skills. Each day begins with the user being asked how they are feeling. It is straight-forward, but not threatening, since the user doesn’t have to worry about how much they write or what another person is feeling. The more often the user practices this skill, the easier it will be to evaluate their feelings in the moment.
Understanding our own actions, thoughts and feelings.
When using this app, especially if using one of the guided journeys, the user will find themselves exploring the events and actions surrounding how they are feeling. As they do this, they will discover patterns and errors in their thinking, as well as things that have helped or improved a situation. As they notice these patterns, the user will begin to find ways to understand their actions and manage their anger and frustration. This means they will be strengthening their self-control skills.
