MimioReading is an online and app based resource for teaching users the skills and strategies needed for proficient reading comprehension. Users follow a series of animated lessons which continuously build skills and knowledge through a process of introduction, practice, and review. As users progress, the content becomes increasingly challenging and complex, leading to a slow steady progression toward greater proficiency in reading comprehension. Users may also acquire coins for completing the challenges and mini-games to purchase special bonuses. This app offers parents and teachers resources for tracking a child’s progress, including detailed email reports after the completion of each episode. MimioReading contains no inappropriate content, can greatly improve a child’s reading comprehension, and is recommended to any user ages 7 and up.
Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.
MimioReading encourages users to practice focus throughout the mini-lessons. Lessons consist of examples and instructions as the lesson is introduced, comprehension questions, and review. Users must correctly answer questions in order to advance and MimioReading works to keep user attentive by repeating questions and instructions. Users must exercise the Focus thinking skill in order to absorb and acquire information that will eventually be applied to future, more complex lessons and tasks. Failure to practice focus or to absorb the information means users may be unable to advance, or will be unable to complete a future task because they have not learned the foundation created in the earlier and more basic lessons.
Recalling and retaining information in our mind while working.
MimioReading teaches users reading comprehension by progressing through a series of lessons that continually build on knowledge learned in previous lessons. As the complexity of questions and concepts increases, users must deploy information they have learned in previous lessons in order to advance. The app begins with basic questions and answers about the logic and details and sentences and slowly advances to more challenging content. Users will exercise the Working Memory thinking skill while applying knowledge acquired in each lesson to future, more challenging lessons.
