Let’s Roam is an app where the user can choose from a variety of scavenger hunt options. The app has options for in-home scavenger hunts as well as outdoor ones, and even features city-specific hunts for users to explore their own city or discover something new. The more hunts the user does, the more points and badges they earn, which can later be used to purchase real-life “swag.” There are also hunts that are family friendly and ones that feature specific subjects such as reading, writing, geography, science, and math skills. The family-oriented hunts start at age three and cover high interest topics like animals, so even toddlers can participate alongside the rest of the family.

Let’s Roam requires the purchase of “coins” that can be traded in for specific hunts. Every day features mini photo challenges which allow you to spin a wheel for prizes. Some of the prizes include coins that can be used to purchase additional scavenger hunts. There are also different subscription levels available for purchase. It is currently available on Android and iOS.

Let’s Roam!  helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Time Management: Being efficient and aware of our use of time and effort.

Scavenger Hunts usually have a time limit to complete so the participants need to have a good idea of how long it is taking them to find certain objects. They need to be sure that they are spreading their time out between each item they need to find and skipping over difficult items to return to later, time permitting. People who struggle with time management skills may find that they run out of time or do not find as many objects because they spent too much time on one item. To work on this, these players should designate a certain amount of time to each object and pass over it once that time has run out.

Focus: Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.

When working on a scavenger hunt, particularly in a new location, it is easy to get distracted by things that are not part of the list of items you are looking for. This is when it is important to use your focusing skills to block out any distractions and keep your attention on your goal. People who struggle with focus may find that they cannot find many objects or cannot complete the scavenger hunt. These players may benefit from working with a partner who can help them stay focused and on-task. If completing the hunt alone, focusing on one item at a time might be a better way to practice this skill.
