ChoreMonster is app designed for both parents and children that helps motivate and inspire chore completion. There are two accounts — one for parents and one for children. The parent account allows them to select a series of chores they would like their children to do. A due date is added next, along with an alarm schedule. Additional notes can be added along with a number of points children will receive when the chore is marked as complete. Parents should insert images to the chore as well, to help foster a more interactive environment. Parents then choose reward for their children when they have received a certain number of points. Awards can be anything from an allowance to a pack of gum, as they are manually entered by the parent. The portion of the app for children is extremely easy to use. Once parents enter the the chores, they appear on the screen when children sign in. Children only have two options, to mark “not now” or “complete,” making it very easy for parents to monitor their child’s progress. The app is designed for children ages 3 and older.

Time Management

As a parent, it's important to set a schedule complete with a due date for each chore. This helps children to see chores as a task that is time sensitive. The "I'll get around to it" line simply does not mesh with the functionality of ChoreMonster. There's only so long users can put off a task until they will no longer be rewarded for it. It order to receive any points, users must finish the task in a timely manner -- especially since points can be revoked at any time through the parent account. The app helps take the tension out of house chores, as the app essentially becomes the "middle man" chore administrator. Be sure to set each chore to repeat throughout the week -- especially if it's a daily activity like making the bed or brushing teeth. This way, users will always set aside enough time to complete each new chore.

Self-Control

chore-monster-2The points system that ChoreMonster employs is a great motivational tool. But beyond that, it helps instill self-control in children who otherwise would seek out more entertaining ways of passing their time. Chores and household tasks are things that must get done in order to avoid living in a chaotic environment. Consistent use will instill a strong sense of self-control to your child's daily life. The points system gives users incentive that otherwise might be difficult to summon. By earning points, kids get a tangible representation of their good behavior, giving them a sense of accomplishment while developing healthy habits.
