PowerCam is a free photo app that allows users to add a variety of effects and filters to photographs and videos. Users can apply filters to an image before taking a photograph, a feature that separates PowerCam from other photo apps. The ability to see outcome of a shot prior to actually capturing an image, ensures a high quality photo with every shutter. PowerCam also allows users to take panoramic photos, remove color from certain parts of a photo, and apply frames. PowerCam’s share function makes it easy for users to share pictures with family and friends via e-mail, or on a variety of social networking sites. The app’s relative ease of use make it suitable for ages 5 and older, though parental supervision may be required with younger children.

This app is good for kids who need help with:

Planning

Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.

Because PowerCam affords your child the opportunity to see an image through the camera's filter before the picture is taken, he can adjust the angle of the shot during the preview, in order to get a great photo without trial and error. With PowerCam, your child will have over 60 filter options for camera and video at his disposal, allowing him to explore a variety of different themes and motifs. When setting up a shot, your child must determine which filter is most appropriate for his desired theme. For example, if your child is going for a Prohibition Era look, he should experiment with gray scale, black and white, or even a 1920's screen shot feature. Applying filters with little or no foresight will result in a collection of images with ill-fitting filters and effects.

Flexibility

Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations.

PowerCam encourages your child to adapt his shot to suit the needs of each filter. Certain filters, like light-tunnel, require the image to be centered. Other filters, like thermal, are best used to capture people rather than objects. Your child must experiment with filter effects, adapting each filter to its ideal shot. PowerCam also has a video function that utilizes the same filters as the camera. The video taking feature allows your child to use another medium to capture an image or scene. PowerCam fosters adaptive thinking strategies with its numerous filters, as well as its option for taking videos.
