HOMER is an early-learning app that tailors reading, writing, math, and creativity activities to your child’s individual interests. After purchasing the app, you can set up accounts for each of your children without making additional purchases. You then choose from a list of interests for each child, ranging from Dinosaurs to Science to Princesses. After this you answer some questions for each child about their knowledge and comfort level with several academic concepts such as their ABC’s, number recognition and shapes. HOMER will then take these interests and developmental levels and create a learning plan for your child that features these activities, songs, and games.

The app offers many different ways for your child to learn, including story time, letter and number practice, educational videos and songs, and creative play such as drawing and painting. There are also a variety of games to build up your child’s memory, sequencing, and listening skills. The app is bright and colorful, featuring upbeat music and an easy-to-use interface that even children as young as two can navigate with just a little parental help.

HOMER is available for purchase on Android and iOS. There is a one month trial available but a subscription is required after this to continue using the app’s features. Initial setup of the app will require an adult.

HOMER  helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Focus: Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.

Each activity in the HOMER app is helping your child build up their focusing skills. The activities, games, songs, and videos are all high-interest and short, meaning that they will allow your child to focus on them but not for a lengthy period of time. For children who struggle with focusing, this app can help them start small, working with short, sustained activities before being asked to focus for longer periods of time.

Working Memory: Recalling and retaining information in our minds while working.

Many of the activities in the HOMER app are geared towards building up your child’s working memory. Whether it is a literal memory game or drawing the alphabet or numbers, these activities are asking the child to recall information and then apply it to the current situation. These activities are small and simple, meaning that for very young children they can practice this skill without becoming too frustrated or discouraged.
