Moshi is a mindfulness and sleep app designed for children. The app incorporates white noise, storytelling, music, and guided meditations to help children develop good sleeping habits and become more mindful of their behavior during the day.
The app is split into Day and Night options. During the day, children can choose between Meditation, Moments (short affirmation exercises), calming music or sounds, and even guided breathing exercises. For the evening, children can either listen to gently-read bedtime stories, soothing music, or ambient sounds like tropical rainforest, or waves on a shore.
Children can also create their own custom playlists, allowing them to pick and choose the solutions that work best for them during the day and allowing them to drift off to sleep easier at night.
Parents can access a seven day trial of Moshi but a subscription service is required to unlock all of the app’s features. It is available now on Android and iOS.
For children who have trouble staying focused on tasks can benefit greatly from mindfulness exercises. Moshi has exercises for guided meditation and breathing that are especially designed for children. If a child is struggling with focus in daily tasks, starting with a meditation session and breathing exercise each day is a great way for them to practice mindfulness and ignore the distractions around them.
In the evening, choosing a white noise or gentle bedtime story can also help children focus on listening and sleeping rather than trying to fall asleep when it is completely quiet.
Students can also create their own playlists when they have chosen the meditation and breathing options they know work for them. This will help the child take control and ownership of their focus, leading to better results overall.
Self-Control: Managing our actions, feelings and behaviors.
Another great reason to practice mindfulness is the acknowledgement and regulation of emotions. For children who have a hard time expressing how they are feeling or who have a hard time controlling their frustrations will find that meditation and breathing exercises are a great way to calm down and think about what they are feeling and why they are feeling it. Moshi has listening programs specifically targeted to address anxiety and promote relaxation and, self-confidence. These specifically targeted programs can give a child a space in which to calm down, breath, and process their emotions.
The Moments option can also help children practice managing smaller actions, like washing their hands, taking a five minute “brain break” to relax, and feeling gratitude. These Moments are designed to be short ways for children to address particular behaviors and emotions, which can be a great way to start practicing self-control.
