Freedom is an app for students who might need more assistance managing their screen diets. After you have checked off all desired apps or genres of app, set the timer and Freedom will block you from accessing these apps for that time period.
This app can also be customized to block sites inappropriate for children. There are free trial sessions available but after those run out the premium service needs to be purchased. Because of the nature of this app, parents should discuss it with their children openly to enforce the reasoning behind using the app.
Self-Awareness: Understanding our own actions, thoughts and feelings.
Freedom is an app that blocks access to games and apps that lead to overuse of screen time. Because the Freedom app runs in the background, students might be tempted to pick up their phone and click on apps or games. When they see the app is blocked, this triggers the self-awareness skill. So many of us mindlessly pick up our phone that this app reminds us by blocking these apps and games for a specific time just how important self-control is.
Self-Control: Managing our actions, feelings and behaviors.
Because the app and game-blocking timer for Freedom can be set to as little as one minute, students who struggle with self-control issues can start out with a very low stakes amount of time. Then they can work their way up to longer periods of time without screen time, enhancing their self-control skills and helping to build a more sensible media diet.
