Planning Activity

NotesWork with your child to track the amount of time it takes to complete homework in a single subject over a week or two. For example, create a new task titled "Science Homework," and be sure to start the timer in mytime Organizer each time your child begins science homework. When finished, stop the clock for the most accurate recording of the amount of time needed to complete this task. Based on the information obtained with mytime Organizer you and your child can make decisions about the ideal time for working on homework. Together you can also combine this app with another scheduling app, like myHomework, to create a comprehensive and informed schedule specifically tailored to your child's unique needs. Using an average amount of time as a benchmark, your child can also make better decisions when allotting time for leisure activities like watching television or playing games.

Self-Awareness Activity

Use mytime Organizer's "Reports" feature to see a breakdown of your child's allocation of time. Together, you should discuss how much time was spent completing different tasks, doing chores, homework, or even playing games. With your child, talk about where improvements can be made, or point out potential problem areas. Your child should try to make an objective assessment of his or her own use of time. Does your child believe too much time was devoted to any single area? Were there other specific tasks or goals that were not completed because of this? Your child should also look for areas that cause stress, such as homework and school projects. Use the available data to decide with your child if devoting more time and effort to problem areas would improve their eventual outcome.

mytime Organizer & ADHD

BreakdownSome children with ADHD struggle to properly allocate their time and efforts towards achieving goals. Whether a child is easily distracted, or simply struggles with the Planning and Time Management thinking skills, working to develop efficiency and productiveness can help improve your child's life both in school and at home. For children who have difficulty procrastinating or sitting down and following through on tasks from beginning to end, creating Self-Awareness through an app such as mytime Organizer can help them understand where and how to make improvements.

How to Use mytime Organizer for Children with ADHD:

  • Try creating a task titled "Procrastination" and encourage your child to activate it whenever he or she feels they may be putting off a responsibility. Tracking the amount of time wasted, or simply following through and activating the task can foster a sense of Self-Awareness and may help your child to understand that an improvement must be made or a problem must be corrected. While many students have trouble beginning and remaining on task, children who struggle with ADHD my find the issue more pronounced and damaging to their academics.
  • Combine mytime Organizer with another organizational and time management application such as iCal. Using the "Reports" feature of mytime Organizer, try to make an objective assessment of how much time is spent completing different tasks, procrastinating, or enjoying leisure activities. With this information, your child should try creating a realistic schedule for his or her responsibilities. Understanding how long a particular task takes, create an event for roughly the same amount of time, or break the task up over a few days which roughly equals the same amount of time. Creating an informed schedule can help your child improve efficiency, productivity, and Time Management skills at home and in the classroom.
  • Use mytime Organizer to track a positive habit such as reading or studying. Each time your child sits down to work on either of these tasks, start tracking. Your child should only track time during periods of attention and focus toward the task at hand. At the end of each week assess the amount of continuous time dedicated to each task and set an incrementally increased goal for the upcoming week. Work to stretch your child's attention span in this manner or a longer period of time and provide positive reinforcement when your child obtains or exceeds his or her goal.
