Clearful is a writing and mindfulness app that focuses on journaling in a consistent way to plan, reflect, and practice self-care. The user opens the app each day and receives a writing prompt that they can complete. The user builds up a streak for every day where they open the app and complete the daily prompt.

Users can also choose to answer journal questions based on specific themes such as creativity, emotions, goals, memories, and stress/anxiety. The user clicks on one of these topics and then selects a specific prompt that they want to answer. Once they have completed the prompt, they can look back on it by clicking on the Library icon. This way, if a user is struggling with a family member over a period of time, they can look back on their previous entries to gain insight into the situation or to see how the relationship has changed or progressed.

Clearful also keeps track of statistics such as number of words typed and total number of entries. Reminders can be set so that users receive daily push notifications on their device reminding them to journal.

Clearful is free to use but certain features require a subscription. It is available now on Android and iOS.

Clearful helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Focus: Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.

Writing in any form takes a certain amount of focus, so a journaling app is a perfect tool for children to practice this skill. Clearful gives the user a chance to write as little or as much as they like. But it encourages the user to make daily writing a habit, which is made easier because the user is writing about relevant, personal, high interest topics. For users who struggle with focusing, trying to write one to five sentences a day can be a great starting point. Turning on push notifications can also help remind the user that a certain time of each day is devoted to writing.

Self-Awareness: Understanding our own actions, thoughts and feelings.

Journaling is a great way to get in touch with our feelings, practice self-care, and reflect on our reactions to events during the day. For users who struggle with self-awareness, keeping a daily journal, even if it is just a few sentences long, can provide great insight over time into behaviors, actions, and feelings. If the user is lost and does not know where to start, Clearful provides several categories of writing prompts with several sub-topics listed within each option. The user can simply select one of these and receive a prompt to respond to as opposed to trying to come up with a unique topic each day. The daily prompts are also a great way for users to practice self-awareness and keep track of how much they are actually writing each day.
