Seene is a photography app and social media platform where users make their pictures three dimensional, therefore transforming a photo into a “seene,” making pictures come to life. Instead of one angle, users capturing their subject from four different angles. First, users tap the camera icon, and must ensure the apps sees the subject (it will have lots of green dots on it) before tapping the shutter button. When the capture guide appears, users move slowly around their subject, keeping it in the center of the screen — as task which is actually quite difficult. Once users make all four segments turn green, they are ready to view their three-dimensional photo. While Seene operates on its own dedicated social media platform, all images can be published to Facebook and Twitter, embedded to blogs, or sent as emails to friends an family. Because of it’s pixel requirements, Seene only works on the iPhone 4S and above, although users can still browse and see others’ creations on an iPhone 4. Due to the unpredictable nature of published content, Seene is only recommended for use with children ages 12 and older under parental supervision.
Managing our actions, feelings and behaviors.
When taking any type of photograph, the photographer must have a steady hand. The same is even more true for Seene users, which requires motor skills that demand much more Self-Control than traditional photography. Because users must capture four different angles of their subject, they are forced to move around the object while keeping the image centered on the screen. When the body is in motion, the hand inevitably become less steady, and it's not easy to make all four segments of the photo turn green. Often it takes a few frustrating efforts, making it fairly difficult to capture a solid 3D picture the first time around. Even if the app indicates that a shot was successful, it will probably take a few more attempts to get the perfect picture. Users have to minimize shaking, while moving left, right, up, and down, with a slow and controlled motion. They also need to not become frustrated or discouraged while trying to perfect their shot.
Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations.
With Seene, it's all about seeing the subject from different perspectives. The variety of angles that a successful photo offers is not something that other camera apps can do. Even when taking pictures, users will constantly have to adjust where they are standing as well as the position of their hands. Playing around with angles, light and positioning can lead to some impressive shots, so its a good idea for users to explore their options.
Seene will prompt users and give instruction when it senses that users are having a difficult time figuring out just how to manipulate the camera. While there's not a "best way" to capture a photo, users can form their own strategies from failed attempts, where they must continually adapt their angles and movement based on the shape and nature of the subject. If an object has a side or surface that is particularly detailed, users should consider making that particular side the focal point. Taking several photographs of the same object will further the use of the flexible thinking, as users must adapt their shot to a new set of angles and details.
