Punkt is a journaling app for users to gain insights into their mood and activity patterns. Each day you log in, you are asked to describe something that happened to you during the day in only one sentence. You then select how you are feeling from a list of options and click on factors which contributed to your mood for the day. For example, if it rained and you had to cancel a family picnic, you could click on a sad emotion and select weather as the reason you were feeling down.
Over time, you can look at statistics for your emotions and see patterns begin to emerge about what things trigger certain emotions or when a particular emotion dominated a day or week, etc. You can even select between positive and negative emotions and read all of your entries in either of those categories in one sitting.
Punkt is free but certain features, such as adding photos to your entries require the purchase of the app. It is available now on iOS.
Focus: Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.
Journaling is a great way to get in touch with your thoughts and actions but for children who struggle with focus, it may be difficult for them to write long passages each day. Punkt can help them work on their focusing skills by asking them to write one sentence about each day and then select their mood and contributing factors from a list. While these are not long entries, they can help children practice keeping this habit up for a longer period of time before moving on to longer passages.
Self-Awareness: Understanding our own actions, thoughts and feelings.
Journaling can be a great way to gain perspective on our thoughts and actions. And because Punkt only requires a one sentence entry per day, the user really needs to think about what the main issue of the day was before writing it down. They can also select their current emotional state as well as factors they think contributed to that state throughout the day. After a number of entries are made, the user can begin to see the pattern of their emotions and actions and think more about what triggers to avoid and what positive experiences to continue.
