One Second Everyday is a journaling app where the user can keep track of one second of their day by recording a short video. These videos can then be combined into longer creations so that you can see a progression of your calendar in one sitting.
One Second Everyday features two modes for content creation. Timeline is a traditional approach where you record one second of footage everyday on a calendar-style template. You can then add private messages to this mode to provide further information about the video you recorded. There is also the Freestyle mode, which allows you to record events or vacations in a more open-ended way.
The app also features a collaboration mode that allows you to create and “mash up” videos with up to six other people, making a multi-person audio-visual project.
One Second Everyday is a free-to-use app but certain features, such as the collaboration feature, require a subscription to the app’s services.
Flexibility: Trying something new.
While it is possible to keep a written record of your days, a video journal might be a way for users to think of a different way to track the events of their day. Because the videos are so short, the user needs to capture a moment, edit it, post it, and create a note to accompany it. For users who are not comfortable with trying new methods of recording their thoughts and feelings, One Second Everyday is a way for them to try something new without having to make a huge commitment to learning a whole new way of journaling.
Users can also access the collaboration feature and try to create a shared journaling experience with another person. This kind of shared experience is another way to try something new and learn to collaborate with another person or multiple people in the creation of a project.
Self-Awareness: Understanding our own actions, thoughts and feelings.
Journaling is a great way to reflect on life events and our day to day thoughts and feelings. For users who want to try a different way of approaching self-awareness, keeping a video journal using an app like One Second Everyday can allow them to see short snippets of their days combined into a much larger picture. Because the user can also add private notes to their journal, they can provide some context to the short video that they can look back on in the future. For users who struggle with Self-Awareness, trying to record a full week’s worth of short videos with short comments and then looking back can be a small way to practice self-awareness skills. After completing a full week, the user can then work their way up to longer time commitments or collaborative projects with other users of the app.
