Time Management

Users who have difficulties making the best use of their time or who find themselves constantly procrastinating, will find that Geomaster helps them work faster - at least within the context of the app. Captials must be identified in less than five seconds, or users will receive no points. Gameplay requires quick thinking, sometimes requiring users to go with their "gut" impulses. To reach the 400 point goal each round, users cannot incur more than one time penalty. They have ten turns to make the score, leaving just a small margin for error. Five seconds is a very brief period of time - especially when internalizing a question, making an inference, and then answering. However, through repeated use of the app, users can improve their performance and increase their speed.

Working Memory

Recalling and retaining information in our mind while working.

Geomaster is a great tool for improving geographical memory, helping users to become more familiar with the locations of various countries and cities. Because there are a finite number of countries, questions are likely to begin repeating after the third or fourth playthrough. It is this repetitive nature of the app which makes it especially good for those who need help grasping the geographical layout, as geography is one subject were repetition and spatial understanding are key to learning. To move to the next level within the app, users will have to use their Working Memory skills to recall questions they answered incorrectly in the past, which will keep them from making the same mistakes again. While it is fairly difficult to score 400 points, users who have actively paid attention during gameplay and have made an effort to internalize the approximate location of some of the harder-to-remember cities, will notice their scores drastically improve. Using Geomaster is essentially a form of studying, as users are forced to remember and apply learned information, albeit in a fun, somewhat gamified environment.

Social Studies

Geography is not typically taught as a standalone subject until Jr. High or High School. While basic concepts are studied in elementary school, (highly depending on individualized curriculum) geography is a subject that does not get quite the same attention as math and science. It is just as important, however, for users to be well-rounded students.  Geomaster serves as a way to bolster users' understanding of geographical concepts at an early age. Understanding geographical layouts can supplement learning across other facets of Social Studies classes, understand the spatial relations of various countries and cities to one another can help to conceptualize historical scenarios and understand the ever-shifting landscape of territories throughout history.
