Understood.org Podcast Highlights the Benefits of Gaming for Kids

One of our missions at LearningWorks for Kids is to show parents and educators how to leverage fun and popular technologies to improve learning for kids. We don’t often talk about how technologies, video games, and apps can also provide an engaging, entertaining, and enlightening opportunity for adults. One of the types of media we as adults cannot seem to get enough of are podcasts. Whether you simply want to be entertained by true crime stories, learn about science and technology, or hear reviews of the latest movies and books, podcasts are an incredible opportunity to engage your brain. The founder of LearningWorks for Kids, Dr. Randy Kulman, recently had an opportunity to participate in a podcast produced by Understood.org. For those of you who are not familiar with this incredible organization, Understood.org is the leading voice in the world for assisting parents and educators to know more about how to help kids who think differently, behave differently, or are diagnosed with learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or autism spectrum disorders.

Understood.org produces a stimulating podcast called In It. Dr. Kulman appeared in the most recent podcast, Real-World Benefits of Gaming for Kids. Many topics were discussed including the connection between play and learning, and how to make video games more digitally nutritious. The podcast also examined some of the cool new neurotechnologies such as EndeavorRX and Mightier that have been designed for kids with ADHD, executive functioning difficulties, or difficulties with emotional regulation. Another topic that was bantered around was how games like Minecraft, Roblox, Animal Crossing, and Pokemon can be used to teach executive functioning skills.

Parents who want to learn more about how to leverage their kid’s love of games into learning will learn a great deal from the energetic discussions on the  Real-World Benefits of Gaming for Kids podcast. The In It podcast covers all types of topics for parents and educators of kids who might learn differently. Our team at LearningWorks for Kids particularly liked recent episodes titled Letting Kids Fail, ADHD in Girls, and the Holiday Survival Guide for Kids who Learn Differently. To listen to Dr. Kulman’s episode and others from Understood.org, find them on Spotify, iTunes, Stitcher, or wherever you download your podcasts from.
