Today you’ll need to game like your life depends on it…because it does. Today we are talking about the rogue-lite card game Inscryption. In this game, you find yourself alone in a darkened room when suddenly a pair of menacing glowing eyes is staring back at you. They prompt you to begin playing the card game you see before you. As you go along, the rules of the game are explained and a story is told of you the player and your journey through a twisted and mysterious landscape. But remember I said you need to play like your life depends on it? Well, that’s because you can only lose twice before the game with this mysterious figure ends. How does it end? Well, we’re not going to spoil that here. In between rounds of the card game, you can get up and explore the room you have found yourself in. You find objects you can interact with, some that might even help you escape your current situation…if you know where to look. Do you have what it takes to make it to the end of a madman’s game? What is waiting for you on the other side of the locked door? Play Inscryption to find out!

Inscryption is a great way to practice your flexibility skills. The rules in the game are ever-changing and sometimes the shadowy figure will even change them in the middle of a battle. You need to look at the cards in your hand and think about the best possible moves that can be made when very little remains the same. Flexibility also helps you by trying something new. Cards in the game sometimes bear sigils which give them different types of powers, such as flying or creature multiplication. When you come across a new symbol while choosing cards for your deck, don’t just take one you’re familiar with. Read up on the new symbol and see if it would be a worthwhile addition to your deck.

This game is also good for practicing your planning skills. You may need to think several moves ahead before you play a card, much like in a game of chess. The cards that you play have both offense and defense scores and where you place them and how long they will remain there before being eliminated by your opponent is important. Sometimes something as lowly as a sacrificial squirrel can turn the tide of the battle because you planned ahead and thought through your card placement.
