App Spotlights For Parents: Go Noodle!

Hello and Welcome to LearningWorks for Kids App Spotlights for Parents! In this series, we will be highlighting some apps that can really help your child’s executive functioning skills. Today we are going to be talking about Go Noodle. This app is designed to get your children to learn fun facts, become more self-aware, and add more activity to their daily routine. When opening the app, your child can choose from a variety of “channels” that have different types of content. For instance, if they want to listen to popular music while having a dance party, they can head over to the Kidz Bop channel to get some exercise. If they want to strength train to be like their favorite quarterback, they can give the NFL-sponsored Play 60 channel a try. Or, if they are feeling overwhelmed and want to learn how to calm their body and mind, they can use the videos in the Empower Tools channel. All of the channels on Go Noodle are designed for children by groups of expert educators, athletes, dancers, researchers, and mindfulness experts. For parents, homeschoolers, or in-class educators, the Go Noodle website features several different options for connection activities in conjunction with the videos. You can search by grade level, type of activity, or type in a keyword like Thanksgiving to pull up all relevant content.  The site also features themed blogs to help parents and educators foster closer relationships with their children and students and make the most of screen time. 

Go Noodle is a great way for your child to practice their self-awareness, focus and flexibility skills. There are several different videos about mindfulness, yoga, meditation, managing feelings, and expressing gratitude. Your child can watch one or several of these videos alone or alongside you and then talk about how they were feeling before and how they feel now. The videos on the app can also help children try out new things by being flexible about the types of videos they watch and the activities they choose to do afterwards. If your child is not really into sports, this might mean giving the Play 60 channel a try. Or if they have never expressed an interest in helping make dinner, give any of the short and easy cooking videos a try.
