April is Autism Awareness Month.
Autism Awareness Month is an opportunity for all of us to learn more about Autism Spectrum Disorder. For parents and childcare professionals, it’s a good time to increase personal awareness of new treatments and strategies to help kids affected by the disorder. In the past decade medical, psychological, and educational professionals have developed many powerful methods for helping children affected by autism, many of which involve technology. But many questions remain as to how much kids with autism actually benefit from video games.
LearningWorks for Kids has a special interest in how children with autism benefit from digital play. We are constantly examining the potential of video games, apps, and other technologies to reach kids on the spectrum. For Autism Awareness month we’ll be posting a series of articles that will discuss research, new strategies for using digital technologies, and help you learn more about specific games, apps, and tools that can help children with autism.
It is evident to those of us working in the field that technology is helping many of the kids on the spectrum. While much research and experimentation is yet to be done, intensive educational and technological interventions are helping many kids with ASD successfully navigate their academic, emotional and social worlds.
At LearningWorks for Kids, we write a lot about the benefits of digital technologies for kids affected by autism. We encourage you to look through our blog and read some of our past posts.
