SoundHound is a music recognition app that allows users to discern the artist and lyrics to their favorite songs. Users simply touch the SoundHound button, and the app will “listen” for music and then identify the song and artist. Users can play or sing a song, and the app’s music recognition system will present the song on-screen within seconds. It is not often that users will stumble across a song that the app is unable to recognize. It can even identify songs that are hummed by users who have an ear for pitch and melody, but forget the lyrics. SoundHound displays accompanying lyrics that automatically scroll in sync with the song. Users can bookmark songs, and share them via Twitter. A recent search history is available, which helps users track their favorite songs. Because the app features lyrics, parents should always monitor its use. It is recommended for children ages 8 and older.
Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations.
SoundHound is essentially a music discovery system, whether that be finding the names of old songs or stumbling across something entirely new. Because the app is activated only when users are unfamiliar with a song, they are exercising flexible thinking simply by hearing and experimenting with new songs. Users can adapt to new musical surroundings simply by pushing a button. SoundHound presents users with related artists, songs, and suggestions with each query, furthering their quest for new music. Listening to music can be a highly exploratory activity, and users with open minds and an affinity to try new things will see SoundHound as a way to learn more about exciting new artists.
Understanding our own actions, thoughts and feelings.
Sometimes music can be a solitary experience, but it is frequently best enjoyed in a group. SoundHound features a community element that combines outside social media sites like Twitter with an internal system of communication (comment box). The search history keeps users up-to-date with their latest musical discoveries, giving users the opportunity to find common themes among their song selections. Users may even be able to track their moods by carefully analyzing the app's search history. Trending songs, top 40 hits, and recommendations are part of SoundHound's suite of services, and contribute to the sense of community that has emerged in the latest update. Tracks listed as "hottest," "most tweeted," and "just found by fans" foster an environment of discussion and discovery, and encourages users to see music as a way to enter into a new social atmosphere.
