What is Organization?

Organization is the thinking skill that helps you to:

    • Put things into an order.
    • Take care of your daily schedule.
    • Find your stuff.
    • Get the things needed to complete a task before starting it

For example, you use your organization skills when you can come home and easily find all of your homework in your backpack so that you can get it done.

Sammy & Ugene

In this comic strip, Sammy made sure to write down his homework so he knows exactly what to do when he gets home. Meanwhile, Ugene can’t even seem to find his assignments.

What can you do?

If you have a hard time finding your soccer cleats or can’t locate your favorite video game or a cell phone, you might need help improving your Organization skills.

Here are some simple ideas that you can use to get yourself organized, both at school and at home:

    • Organization doesn’t just happen, so you need to organize and reorganize regularly. For example, many kids clean out their backpacks on Sunday nights and throw out what they no longer need and put away stuff they want to keep for later.
    • Have a special place where you always put your most important things. For example, have a place in the house where you put your keys and money.
    • Remember that organization takes time and effort. For example, try and make time to put your homework assignments away in the right place at school and after you complete them at home.
