Tumblr is a social blogging tool that allows users to create a unique online space that is all their own. Users can follow other bloggers, and easily reblog their posts to have them appear on their own page. Users can also post their own images, videos, text, quotes, and more. Tumblr is an excellent way to be creative online, but, as with any blog or social networking tool, parental monitoring is necessary for any user ages 8 and up.

Tumblr is good for kids who need help with:

Self-Awareness

Understanding our own actions, thoughts and feelings.

Tumblr will allow users to develop a sense of self identity through creating a virtual space that is unique to their personal interests. It allows them to search anything they wish and find content which they can use on their own tumblr, which others will view as well, creating a virtual community for your child to interact with. Users can also "track" their interests, allowing them to be constantly up-to-date on whatever subject they desire. The service works well with the creative minded, as many users post poetry, original artwork, photographs, and other projects they have spend considerable time one. Like a portfolio to the student, Tumblr functions as a collection of original creative work, that users wish to share with the online community.

Focus

Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks. It's easy to get lost on the Internet, especially when a website has what seems like endless content. Tumblr has a limitless supply of images, stories, and other content to scroll through. Because there such a wealth of content, users may lose the sense of direction that began their search. It is important that users do not to lose sight of their end goal when searching through Tumblr. It is a very informative and inspiring service, that is unfortunately, often the source of wasted hours. Users should keep their browsing fairly thematically linked, in an effort to learn and see more about a subject. The 'tag' system -- which allows users to tag their posts and lets other users search their content -- helps to introduce a sense of focus to users' interests.

Flexibility

Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations. Trying new things. Tumblr allows users to explore new music, art, pop culture -- any topic they wish to explore; there isn't just one topic or one interest they have to like or put on their tumblr. With all of the options, chances are users will find something new that they never thought they would enjoy before. Users are encouraged to explore Tumblr and search into many interests, she will be exposed to many different Tumblr users with equally different tastes.
