Minimalistic visuals and fast paced gameplay collide in Super Hexagon, a simple but challenging game that tasks players with maneuvering a tiny triangle around the center of the screen in an effort to dodge incoming obstacles. The controls are very basic — tapping the right side of the screen rotates the triangle clockwise, and tapping the left side moves the triangle counter-clockwise. An unending pattern of walls and corridors move towards the center of the screen, encroaching on players, who must dodge side to side to avoid crashing into them. The goal is to survive as long as possible, with the players’ best times being recorded by the game. Players can see how they score against others by checking their ranking on the online leaderboards, which list the best times achieved by players around the world. While Super Hexagon features no violent or offensive content, its fast pace and high level of challenge is best suited for players ages 7 and up.

this game is good for kids who need help with:

Focus

Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals. Ignoring external distractions.

The hyper-fast pace of Super Hexagon's gameplay demands tremendous amounts of concentration, as even a half-second lapse in concentration can cause the game to end. In order to avoid the endless amount of obstacles zooming towards the center of the screen, players need to stay attentive, making sure to notice safe spots on the screen and move to them before it is too late. If players are easily distracted or get thrown off by the intense visuals of the game, they will likely crash into a wall and be forced to start over. Improving one's score takes a lot of determination, and the challenging level of difficulty the game provides makes adding even 5 seconds to one's score a daunting task.

Flexibility

Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations.

Reflexes play a big role in success in Super Hexagon. Obstacles race towards the center of the screen quickly, and the patterns become more complex as the game goes on. Players need to be able to quickly adapt the various obstacles racing towards them, dodging left and right as they keep an eye on the new patterns racing into the screen. As new patterns are introduced, new tactics must be implemented, as each requires different sets of movements that need to be done at a moments notice. Hesitating for even split second can spell defeat, so players need to stay on their toes and adapt quickly to the action on the screen.

Working Memory

Recalling and retaining information in her mind while working. Improving visual memory.

Though the game continually presents players with rapidly changing patterns and obstacles, the total number of variations in these patterns is limited. This means players can "learn" patterns, allowing them to identify incoming threats and anticipate what actions must be taken to avoid crashing. For instance, one pattern appears in a spiral of walls. To survive this segment, players must hold down the side of the screen to spin through the spiral. They are given little time to react, and the quicker they identify incoming patterns and recall the way to deal with them, the longer they'll last in the game. As new levels become unlocked, the gameplay increases in speed, and at these levels the only way to avoid some patterns is to know ahead of time what actions must be done to navigate through them.
